The Giver’s summary (9-18)
Jonas, who had a great honor, was selected as a Receiver he has never think of before. However, the Chief Elder told that his training would be alone and apart. After the ceremony, he came home and opened the folder which the Elder gave to him. There were 8 rules for the Receiver of Memory that allowed him to obey. The first day at Annex, he saw the stuff in Annex were arranged in special order, especially, books. Then he had some talks with the Giver, and that day he learned the memory of snow the Giver transmitted to him. Days by Days, Jonas learned and understood a lot of things which his community and he have never known such as snow, color, sunburn, hill, sled, rain, love, warfare…etc. The memories Jonas received were both pain and joy, but he suffered from them, and he was delightful from what he perceived. I feel so sorry for Jonas, who is selected as a Receiver, who has got such a difficult task that is not supposed to happen to 12 years old boy to suffer, and make him apart from his friends and others. It is really unfair that there is only person to perceive pain and can not have a chance to share to anyone in the entire of the community. Can you imagine if this kind of event happen to you? I wish Jonas could make some changes and share the meaningful of the memories which he received to his community because born as a human has to face with any of these things ( love, pain, joy), so that life will be useful. Good Luck Jonas ^-^
