The Giver’s summary (9-18)

Jonas, who had a great honor, was selected as a Receiver he has never think of before. However, the Chief Elder told that his training would be alone and apart. After the ceremony, he came home and opened the folder which the Elder gave to him. There were 8 rules for the Receiver of Memory that allowed him to obey. The first day at Annex, he saw the stuff in Annex were arranged in special order, especially, books. Then he had some talks with the Giver, and that day he learned the memory of snow the Giver transmitted to him. Days by Days, Jonas learned and understood a lot of things which his community and he have never known such as snow, color, sunburn, hill, sled, rain, love, warfare…etc. The memories Jonas received were both pain and joy, but he suffered from them, and he was delightful from what he perceived. I feel so sorry for Jonas, who is selected as a Receiver, who has got such a difficult task that is not supposed to happen to 12 years old boy to suffer, and make him apart from his friends and others. It is really unfair that there is only person to perceive pain and can not have a chance to share to anyone in the entire of the community. Can you imagine if this kind of event happen to you? I wish Jonas could make some changes and share the meaningful of the memories which he received to his community because born as a human has to face with any of these things ( love, pain, joy), so that life will be useful. Good Luck Jonas ^-^

Swine Flu Vaccine

The article ” Swine Flu Vaccine Arrives in Washington Area”  ( Washington Post 10/07/09), by Nelson Hernandez, tells about Swine flu vaccine is flooding into Washington area in the opening day of a national campaign against the spread of the virus. Health officials in Maryland, Virginia and the District is receiving thousand of does expected to be distributed nationwide. The first does of the vaccine will be largely reserved for health-care workers who are the greatest risk of exposure. This vaccine will be made available to the people most likely to be seriously sickened by the virus : children, young adults, pregnant women and people with underlying medical conditions. It is recommended for use only in healthy people ages 2 to 49. I chose this article because it is related to the swine flu which is the outbreak flu nowadays, and most countries concern about it a lot. In fact, there is the vaccine that can prevent the people from this flu. I hope this vaccine is going to be available all over the world soon.

International Climate Pact

The article ” Nations Appear Headed Toward Independent Climate Goals” ( Washington Post 09/23/09), by Juliet Eilperin and Colum Lynch, explains that there are several world leaders gave the most decisive indication in months that will work to revive negotiations aimed at securing a new international climate pact. Many climate activists had hoped this year world yield a pact where nations would agree to cut the green house gas emissions of a legal international treaty. U.N. Secretary General Ban ki-Moon said, ” Climate change is the preeminent geopolitical and economics issue of the 21st century”. It will increase pressure on water, food , land, and exacerbate poverty. I chose and interested this article because it talked about the climate change and green house gas emission which related to the world issue that I have been working on with my group presentation. I think we should consider this as a serious problem.  If it is possible we should try to avoid using things which cause lots of trouble to the Ozone and the Climate.

Raping and Murdering

The article ” Seven Men Charged in Girl’s Rape and Murder to Face Trial” (Phnom Penh Post 09/23/09), by Mom Kunthear, tells about ” The trial of seven men charged with the gang rape and murder of 13 years-old girl last Saturday”. They have been held at the police station since their arrest on Sunday. One of the men had fallen in love with that girl. On the day of attack, that man asked her to accompany him for a walk in the wood, and then there were six more men sprung upon her. They raped her one by one until she fell unconscious. Then they killed her with a knife 12 times in the back. I think this story was disgusting. I felt so sad for that girl. I chose this article because of the title; I was interested. I didn’t really believe how should this thing happen. I was shocked when I read that. It kind of cruel case I have ever seen. They treated her like an animal.

Study Log #3

1.This week, I didn’t practice reading lots, but today I went to the movie and I learned a few new words.

2. In class, I learned how to use past participle as an adjective, adjective which end with ed and ing and I kind of knew about prefix.

3. I always did lots of mistake with grammar (article) in my writing. I think I should focus a lot with my weakness points.

4. I think if it is possible, we should do more in reading ( active book) so it will help us to learn some vocabulary and improve our reading skill. I need some more good examples of  topic sentence.

Paragraph #5

A Person I Admire

A person who I admire the most is my mother. I believe that, everyone has her own hero. I admire my mother for many reasons. First of all, she has been divorced since I was young, but she could afford everything. She is such a good mother. She is a hard-working and industrious woman. She acts not only a mother but also father. She works everyday. Moreover, when she finishes working, she does all house works. She cooks, cleans, does laundry and takes care of her children. Even though, she doesn’t get high education, she always gives me good advices to obey. In addition, she kinds of strict, but she is really nice and kind to everyone. Most neighbors like her because she never makes any difficulty to them; in contrast, she helps them sometimes. The most important thing about her is she is the one who supports and believes in me. She always stays beside me and encourages me whenever I have problem. I remembered some words that she told me  if I want to succeed in work or study, I have to learn to be patient, hard working and honest. It is such a great advice which I will never forget. I appreciate her a lot and I’m really glad to be her daughter. To sum up, she is the one who I most admire; I wish I could get a great qualities as she has.
