The Disaster of Heavy Rainfall
The article “ Rains Take Heavy Toll” ( The Phnom Penh Post 9/16/09), by Tep Nimol, explains the damage of rainfall in Cambodia. The National Committee of Disaster Management said “ Nearly 29000 hectares of crop were damaged and more than 13600 homes flooded across the country by heavy rainfall during the past 10 days”. The rain began on September 4 until September 14 . It hit almost an entire country of Cambodia, but it hit hardest in Kompong Thom, Kompot, Kratie and Ratanakkiri provinces, and at least nine people were killed. This year’s rainfall was heavier than in the previous years. There are at least 2 districts in Phnom Penh remain flooded. It had destroyed lots of things, especially, cars, road, homes, crops; moreover, it was hard to travel. However, the Ministry of Water Resources said on Monday, the water levels has been decreasing. I chose this article because it was interested me; almost the last 2 or 3 years I have never heard that the rain had serious fallen in many days and destroyed lots of things. And I know, in Phnom Penh if there is a heavy rain, it makes a difficulty to travel because some places are flooded, so how about in the provinces? It seems like it affect to much to people who live in the rural area. I think it’s kind of a big problem, that’s why I mentioned it. I hope the leader of the country should care about this problem and help the people who are in danger.
